AirTran Airways recently announced new non-stop service to Huntsville, Ala., from Baltimore/Washington (BWI) and Orlando (MCO) beginning May 27. The new flights will operate daily on 117-seat Boeing 717-200 aircraft. While officials at Huntsville International Airport recognize the tremendous benefits the new non-stop service will provide to the BWI and MCO markets, they are quick to point out that additional AirTran service will depend upon the support of the community. Low-cost Carrier Recruitment Initiative Enters Next Phase
Reducing fares by an average of 40% and saving the community in excess of $60 million annually is at the forefront of the Tennessee Valley Low-cost Carrier Recruitment initiative. While AirTran Airways recently announced it would begin service from HSV to Baltimore/Washington and Orlando, the full savings hinges on the addition of the Atlanta service, which would serve as the gateway to the United States in terms of air travel for the community. HSV Earns FAA Southern Region Safety Award & Mark of Distinction Award
Huntsville International Airport (HSV) has been honored by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for superior safety operations. During the annual FAA Airport Safety Conference, which was held January 28-29 in Atlanta, HSV earned top honors as the recipient of the Southern Region Air Carrier Airport Safety Award. The prestigious award was presented to HSV for its exemplary safety operations among more than 100 Part 139 airports within an eight-state region. In applying for the award, HSV highlighted its work at initiating five highly successful programs designed to enhance air carrier safety and day-to-day operations management, including electronic records management; fuel safety management; wildlife hazard improvements; scheduled airfield maintenance; and consolidated airport operations. On March 12, key officials from Redstone Arsenal gathered in the recently constructed public waiting facility at Huntsville International Airport to dedicate its new interactive display. The 20-foot display communicates the organizational missions, programs, and synergy of more than 55 Redstone Arsenal organizations collectively known as Team Redstone. The central part of the display features larger-than-life videos of real people from a wide variety of Team Redstone organizations. View the full article.
Foreign Trade Zone No. 83, located at the Port of Huntsville, includes the Jetplex Industrial Park and the Mallard Fox Creek Industrial Park, as well as the Port in Decatur, AL.
