Jetplex Tenant, Multitronics, “Segways” into the Future of Small Assembly Manufacturing
Family owned and operated, Multitronics VMI, LLC (Multitronics), is a TS-16949 and ISO-14001 registered manufacturer of high-volume electromechanical assemblies built to the exacting standards of the automotive electronics industry. Founded by Ashok Mahbubani, the organization today resides at its third expanded location since opening its doors in 1987. Multitronics is located on Electronics Boulevard within the Jetplex Industrial Park. The building encompasses 75,000 square feet, and the company has 33 full-time employees – 90 percent of whom are dedicated to manufacturing.
From assembling & testing CD Drives to ultra-cleaning aluminum castings for automated application of sealants and thermal transfer materials, Multitronics has tailored its process technologies toward supporting companies in the automotive supply chain. However, as the downturn in the economy has impacted the automotive industry, executives at Multitronics have targeted other industries for future expansion of the business. For Multitronics, the possibilities are vast considering that any customer requiring high-volume, defect-free electromechanical assembly would benefit from its services.
Among one of Multitronics’ existing non-automotive customers is a company that manufactures the Electronic Controls Unit (ECU) for the Segway© Personal Transporter (Segway PT). The final product is manufactured in New Hampshire by Segway LLC. Segway was part of the team that originally approved Multitronics to produce Heat Sink Assemblies with power transistors attached to aluminum heat sinks using appropriate thermal transfer materials. Uniquely, when Multitronics was awarded this business, it had no idea which product the assemblies were intended to be used for since Segway was still “under wraps.” It was in December 2001, only after the Segway PT had been introduced to the world on television, when Multitronics learned that it was in the supply chain for a first-of-its-kind product with the potential of revolutionizing personal transportation. Since then, every Segway PT sold anywhere in the world uses six critical Assemblies manufactured at Multitronics in Huntsville.
As Multitronics continues to expand its business beyond the automotive industry, it remains steadfast in its mission of adding sustained value for customers by combining the skills and commitment of dedicated people with timely investments in appropriate process technologies. The founders remain committed to renewing process technologies as needed to remain a preferred, state-of-the-art contract manufacturing, technical support, and inventory management services organization focused on maintaining high standards of customer satisfaction.
