Traveling in and out of Huntsville International Airport will soon mean major changes for
passengers. As part of an ongoing $65 million, 5-year capital improvement project, the west wing – the first of two wings near the current connector walkway and security checkpoint – has been completed. Each wing will feature 30-foot high panoramic windows that overlook airfield operations. The wing to the west will be home to security checkpoint, and the east wing will be a large lobby/seating area accommodating up to 150 people. This renovation will also significantly widen the walkway toward the new wings – adding four times more space than the current public areas, including new restrooms, an expanded gift shop in the concourse and terminal, and upgraded flight information display systems. Beginning later this month, inbound and outbound passengers will both be routed through the newly constructed west wing. This two-way traffic will be temporary until the construction of the east wing and connector is completed in the summer of 2009.
Aimed at providing superior customer service as well as accomodating a growing number of passengers, Huntsville International Airport recently opened new restroom facilities in the second floor terminal building, including a new family friendly facility. As part of an ongoing $65 million, 5-year capital improvement project, the airport completed the installation of the restrooms in the terminal area not only to serve outbound and inbound passengers but also to accomodate the public waiting area.
With the family friendly restroom, passengers traveling with small children may now experience the convenience, accessibility, and privacy offered. A large fold-down baby changing table can be found in the new space as well as an oversize recliner and table.
All of the new public restrooms incorporate hands-free technology such as soap dispensers, faucets, and flushers.
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is urging travelers to plan ahead for air travel security procedures this holiday season. The agency expects heavy passenger volume throughout the Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s holidays. TSA reminds passengers to prepare before they arrive at the airport for holiday travel. Leave gifts in carry-on luggage unwrapped and place laptops or other large electronics, including video game consoles and DVD players, in the security bin for screening. View the full article.
