The Skies Come Alive Over Huntsville International Airport

June 28-29

It has been five years since North Alabama has experienced the exhilaration of an Airshow! For two days, Saturday and Sunday, June 28- 29, the skies over Huntsville International Airport will reflect a need for speed. More than 100,000 spectators are expected to attend the 2-day event. Volunteers Needed!

As Airshow 2008 rapidly approaches, the Airshow Committee is calling for volunteer help from all individuals and community groups in the surrounding area. Airshow 2008 needs help in the areas of parking, tickets, traffic and crowd control, handicap assistance and buses, ramps and displays, box seats and chalets, and general information.   • The Airshow dates are Saturday and Sunday, June 28-29, 2008.
  • There is no general admission charge to the Airshow.
  • There will be a $10 per vehicle parking charge. We recommend carpooling.
  • Parking lots open at 9:00 a.m. on both days. We strongly recommend carpooling.
  • The Airshow opens each day at 10:00 a.m. featuring static displays and interactive exhibits.
 

All Eyes on the Skies

Airshow 2008 promises a number of exciting aerobatic performances in addition to the Blue Angels and Golden Knights, including the Aeroshell Acrobatics Team who will fly their WWII North American Advanced Trainers in a series of roaring and smoke-billowing formations known as the bomb burst, vertical rejoin, avalanche and “Switch Blade.” View the full article.


Static Displays Charged with Excitement

Designed for all ages, Airshow 2008 has something for everyone. Kids will not be the only ones electrified by an intimate exploration of Airshow 2008 static displays. You will experience the sheer vastness of the military’s cavernous international transport aircraft built by Lockheed. Several versions of their C- 130 Hercules workhorse line will be on display, along with the U.S. Navy’s all-weather E-2C Hawkeye carrier equipped with radar, IFF, and a passive detection system. Well-Grounded Fun for the Entire Family

In addition to the many aerobatic demonstrations and static displays, the action on the ground is equally enjoyable! Find a host of aviation-themed kid-friendly exhibits, video games and demonstrations like the Kid’s Hangar, sponsored by WAFF 48 and Clear Channel Radio. Over 25 PLAYSTATION®3 and PLAYSTATION®2 gaming stations using the new SIXAXIS™ controller played on the newest high definition Sony TV's with 40" big screens make up the PlayStation Patrol Tour. The U.S. Army’s 10,000-square-foot interactive Virtual Army Experience video game, and the U.S. Navy’s Accelerate Your Life Experience Tour utilizing a 180-degree Immersa-Dome™ and their Suburban Tour media center-on-wheels, are equally enthralling. For the more active participant, shape-up at the National Guard’s Rock-climbing wall and see how fit you really are at the U.S. Marine Corp’s Pull-up Bar.


Party with the Pilots

On Saturday night, June 28, you will have a chance to meet the Airshow performers and get their autographs at the Performer’s Party at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center’s Davidson Center! Scheduled from 7pm - 10pm, this is your chance to meet members of the Blue Angels, the Golden Knights and many other performers. Hors d'oeuvres will be served and you can watch special showings of an exciting 3-D movie.

Airshow 2008 Traffic Route

As a convenience to our spectators and in an attempt to cut down on traffic congestion, the Huntsville International Airport strongly recommends carpooling to Airshow 2008. There will be a $10 per vehicle charge for parking. Airshow parking will not affect commercial air travel. Travelers will follow normal routes to and from the airport via the I-565 exits. Airshow spectators will not be permitted to park at the terminal or in the parking deck or terminal area parking lots. View the full article.


New Concessions Mean Better Selection for Travelers

Huntsville International Airport and Memphis-based AirHost, Inc. officially opened the new airport concessions area on Tuesday, May 13 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Gevalia Coffee joins McAlister’s Deli, Breyer’s Ice Cream, Arrezzio® Italian-style pizza, and The Blue Marble pub in the airport’s new food court-style atmosphere. The renovation doubled the original retail and food vending area to nearly 6,000 square-feet and added an open glass-front court with more seating overlooking airside operations and providing a more family friendly concourse experience.
