As the number of tenants and employees within the Jetplex Industrial Park surges, passengers traveling in and out of Huntsville International Airport continue to grow, and vehicles using the airport I-565 interchange to access Redstone Arsenal increase, traffic utilizing the airport's main entrance is at an all-time high. In an effort to replace temporary access to the new International Diesel Big Bore facility on I-565 immediately east of the airport interchange as well as help enhance traffic flow at this interchange, the Huntsville-Madison County Airport Authority has initiated an Industrial Access Road project. The International Intermodal Center – which provides one central location for companies to transfer, distribute, and store products and services – has long been viewed as a model for other communities looking to enhance their transportation services. 2007 marked another record year for the operation. Panalpina was among eight Alabama companies recently presented with the Governor's Trade Excellence Award by Governor Bob Riley for excellence demonstrated in exporting. The Governor’s Trade Excellence Award was established in 2005 and inaugurated in 2006. Its objectives include identifying Alabama’s successful and innovative exporters, promoting exporters as role models to the Alabama business community in order to encourage greater involvement in the global marketplace, and enhancing awareness of the impact of exporting on Alabama’s economy. Triad Properties has purchased 20.1 acres of land in Jetplex Industrial North for development of two 102,100-square-foot speculative buildings – to be known as Jetplex Tradeport. Construction of the first building was recently completed. The buildings are suitable for light manufacturing and assembly and/or warehouse/distribution. They will offer 24-foot minimum clear heights, ESFR sprinkler systems, skylights, 60-foot concrete truck aprons, and 9-foot x 10-foot dock-height loading doors. Huntsville International Airport will host the Blue Angels and Golden Knights June 28-29 at the 2008 Airshow (www.hsvairshow.com). The Airshow, which is open to the public with free admission, will coincide with Huntsville's Armed Forces Week, June 22-28. In addition to the Blue Angels and Golden Knights, the Airshow will attract other military demonstration teams and will also feature civilian acts. The Huntsville Airshow marks one of only 36 shows scheduled in 2008 for the Blue Angels, the Navy's flight demonstration squadron. View the full article.
