Parking Deck Expansion Breaks Ground

As part of an overall $26 million parking improvement project, Huntsville International Airport recently broke ground on a parking deck expansion. The expansion, which is scheduled for completion in October 2008, will add more than 1,300 spaces to the existing deck – bringing the total number of deck spaces to more than 2,900 and total public spaces upon completion of the entire project to over 4,000. In addition to the expansion of the parking deck, other areas of the project include improvements to surrounding roadways, relocation of exit toll booths, and the addition of more exit lanes to better serve customers.

According to Rick Tucker, Executive Director, Huntsville International Airport, “The parking deck expansion and improvement project is a necessity to meet the demands of our growing community. With the anticipated influx from BRAC and the continued development of the Tennessee Valley region, we are working proactively to put the infrastructure in place to serve the needs of our passengers for years to come.”

The parking deck expansion and improvement project is one of several projects included in the airport’s current $60+ million terminal project. Expansion of concessions – which will encompass 6,000 square feet, including an upscale, full-service bar, and boast a number of new vendors – security screening, passenger waiting area, and baggage claim are also included in the terminal project.
